What is a Divisor Maths Online Tutoring There are 4 basic operations in math, and they are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In the process of division, a given number is divided by another number to get the answer. Here the number which is dividing the given number is known as the Divisor and with the help of the divisor; we get the answer out from the given number. If the divisor is a factor of the given number, then in its division the remainder produced is 0. Example 1: If the number 18 is being divided by the number 3, then which number is called as the divisor? Calculate the answer. Here 18 is being divided by 3, and this can also be written in the fraction form as: 18/3. Here the number placed on the top (or in the numerator) is 18, and the number placed in the bottom (or in the denominator) is 3. Since 3is dividing 18, therefore, the number 3 is called as the divisor. Now dividing 18/3 = 6 is the answer! Example 2: : If the number 20 is being divided by the number 4, then which number is the divisor? Calculate the answer. Here 20 is being divided by 4, and this can also be written in the fraction form as: 20/4.
